Join us for a walk to discover the medicinal and edible plants all around us. Get to know the plants in our ecosystem and explore their ethnobotanical uses!
Along the hikes, edible plants and trees are taught as discovered. There is discussion on each plant/tree; whether edible or medicinal, other uses and how to identify. This is a hands-on course where tasting, smelling and feeling is important. It is taught in a fun practical way to make the experience educational and enjoyable.
Mead Garden is home to over 150 cataloged edible and medicinal species; one of the best natural repositories of its kind in urban Central Florida. The 49 acre botanical garden is centrally located and easily accessed from I-4 if you are coming from out of town. The hike is an easy level and well-behaved children are welcome as students. Most hikes cover 20-30 different species, depending on the season, and cross through different ecosystems.
