IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19

Providing your child a fun, safe, and memorable summer, while fostering a love for nature and the environment is our #1 goal at Mead Botanical Garden. We are excited to offer an opportunity for kids to get outside and have something fun to look forward to after being quarantined for so long.

Mead’s Young Naturalist Summer Camp staff has put in place a number of precautionary measures to address concerns related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Some Precautionary Measures Have Implemented…

  • Fresh air and hikes…
Much of camp takes place outdoors. The doors at Camp Base are kept wide open throughout the day with fans bringing in lots of fresh air in from the outside.
  • Daily health screening and temperature checks…
Prior to admittance to Camp Base, daily health screening, temperature check and hand sanitizing is required for each camper and staff member. Parents complete a health screening questionnaire each day when bringing the camper.
  • Small groups…
Campers remain with the same small group throughout camp. Each group has its own set of materials and supplies that are not shared with other groups. Sharing between campers is kept to a minimum as well.
  • Face masks…
Campers are strongly encouraged to use face masks when engaged in indoor activities that place them in close proximity of one another.
  • Social distancing…
Parents are asked to social distance during drop-off and pick-up. Camp activities take place in several locations throughout Mead Garden. This facilitates social distancing between camper groups. Members of the public are discouraged from coming into the outdoor activity areas when campers are present.
  • Cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning…
On-going cleaning of camp activity areas, materials and supplies with disinfecting solutions takes place throughout the day. Additional camp staff has been added for this purpose.
  • Cubbies and water bottles…
Each camper is given his/her own cubby in which to store personal items. Camp staff refill camp-provided water bottles via pitchers throughout the day to ensure no cross-contamination takes place. Water bottles remain at camp until the end of the week.

We continue to closely monitor state and local mandates as well and CDC and health department safety guidelines for additional precautionary measures.

Thank you considering the Mead Garden Young Naturalist Summer Camp for your child. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly via email at camp@meadgarden.org or by phone 407-920-2070.

Mead Botanical Garden Young Naturalist Summer Camp

At the Young Naturalist Summer Camp, campers will have fun interacting with nature in the beautiful and unique setting of Mead Botanical Garden. They will make discoveries about wildlife, wetlands, plants, the environment and our ecosystem. And, they will develop a life-long love of nature and the great outdoors. Every day, campers will engage in interesting age-appropriate activities and games while exploring our 48-acre park, creek, woodland trails, and wetland.

With a running creek, hiking trails, tall pine trees, a greenhouse, butterfly garden and large pond that’s home to turtles, fish and wading birds, Mead Botanical garden is true hidden treasure. There’s so much for campers to do, see and experience every day. The spacious “Discovery Barn” serves as the camp base headquarters where arts, crafts, environmental activities, gardening and games take place. Throughout the week, visiting experts and certified naturalists bring mammals, reptiles, insects and interesting plants for campers to learn about and see up close.

Young naturalist campers explore Mead Garden’s unique wildlife habitats, hike the wetlands boardwalk, play games, learn fun survival skills and engage in age-appropriate arts & crafts. Campers learn about environmental awareness, wildlife, plants, birds, butterflies, crawling insects, water conservation and ecology — all in a loving, safely supervised environment. Additional Young Naturalist program highlights include nature walks, creek exploration, safe animal encounters, plant propagation, gardening, science games & experiments, rolling down the hillside, making memories & lasting friendships. Your kids will love the adventure; you will appreciate the learning goals that are linked to school success.

Camp is led by a team of cheerful certified teachers, master naturalists and fun counselors who love kids and love to inspire adventure. Camp curriculum and activities are designed to foster a life-long love of the great outdoors. Connecting children, nature and fun is what it’s all about. To ensure your child has a safe and rewarding summer, all adult camp staff members have been background checked. Camp Team leaders are chosen for their excellence in teaching and love for children, nature and the environment. Each has demonstrated an exceptional ability to inspire enthusiasm for learning.
